The MOSAIC Advantage: The end of the 1,320 lb limit.

The days of Light Sport Aircraft (LSAs) being restricted to “single-pilot plus fuel” are officially over.

With the FAA’s MOSAIC rules taking full effect in July 2026, the arbitrary 1,320 lb weight limit has been eliminated. By adopting a performance-based standard capping clean stall speed at 61 knots, OEMs can finally build heavier, vastly more capable trainers.

What does this mean for flight school owners? You finally get “full-fuel, two-adult” utility for primary training without paying a premium for a Part 23 standard category aircraft.

European disruptors like the Tecnam Aircraft P-Mentor and Bristell by BRM AERO B23, alongside domestic champions like the Van’s Aircraft‘s RV-12iS, are now fully capable primary training workhorses.

Curious which Next-Gen trainer fits your ramp? We break down the top contenders in our 34-page Fleet Optimization Guide.
