Heavier, faster, and more capable. Your dream of a 4-seat, 250-knot capable aircraft is now a reality.
FLYING Finance is the industry leader in securing the capital you need for the new era of Light Sport.
The FAA's MOSAIC rule expanded what Light Sport Aircraft can be. The financing conversation expanded with it. Whether you're buying a factory-built S-LSA or a MOSAIC-eligible certified aircraft, FLYING Finance knows the rate, the lender, and the documentation.
The Light Sport Aircraft category was designed to lower the barrier to entry for pilots — simpler medical requirements, lower acquisition costs, and a specific class of aircraft built for accessible flying. For a long time, the financing conversation for LSA was almost nonexistent: prices were low enough that many buyers paid cash, and the lender pool was shallow. That's changed.
MOSAIC raised the LSA speed limit from 120 knots to 250 knots indicated. Aircraft that couldn't be flown under Sport Pilot rules now can be. The financing conversation followed.
The FAA's MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certificates) rule, finalized in 2024, significantly expanded what qualifies under the Light Sport category. The speed limit increase to 250 knots KIAS opened the category to aircraft that were previously certified-only — including some Tecnam, Flight Design, and CubCrafters models that now qualify for Sport Pilot operations. It also changed the financing calculation: aircraft that can be operated under Sport Pilot rules attract a broader buyer pool, which supports values and lender comfort.
FLYING Finance finances LSA aircraft from the most common S-LSA platforms — Carbon Cub, CubCrafters, Flight Design, Pipistrel, Tecnam P92/P2008, Remos, Bristell — at the 6.92% LSA rate. We work with lenders who understand the LSA market and price it correctly.
These are the aircraft FLYING Finance finances most frequently in the LSA and MOSAIC category — each manufacturer's latest MOSAIC-eligible or MOSAIC-ready model.
The Bristell RG MOSAIC is BRM Aero's purpose-built MOSAIC flagship — Rotax 912 iSc or 916 iS engine options, retractable main gear (now fully permitted under MOSAIC), 1,653 lb MTOW under MOSAIC rules, BRS parachute system standard, and Garmin G3X Touch avionics. MOSAIC-certified as of October 22, 2025, with new aircraft certification provisions effective July 24, 2026. Over 1,100 Bristell aircraft delivered globally. The retractable gear configuration was previously restricted to EASA operations — MOSAIC unlocks it for U.S. S-LSA buyers operating under Sport Pilot rules with appropriate endorsements. FLYING Finance routes Bristell to lenders with direct platform experience.
The Tecnam P2010 Gran Lusso is the flagship certified single from the world's largest LSA manufacturer — Continental CD-170 turbocharged diesel engine, 140 KTAS cruise on Jet-A fuel, Garmin G1000 NXi with GFC-700 autopilot, and Italian leather interior. As a certified FAR-23 aircraft it finances at the 6.46% certified piston rate, not the LSA rate — the Gran Lusso is a step above the LSA category into certified territory. FLYING Magazine awarded it the 2024 Innovation Award. The Gran Lusso is MOSAIC-adjacent: Tecnam's certified lineup and LSA lineup are manufactured on the same production line, and lenders familiar with Tecnam know both tiers. Full Tecnam financing guide.
The Sling TSi is Sling Aircraft's four-seat performance flagship — Rotax 915iS turbocharged engine producing 141 hp, 160 KTAS cruise, factory-assist built through Sling Aircraft USA in Torrance, California. As an EAB aircraft it carries the 7.46% experimental rate. MOSAIC's stall-speed-based eligibility framework (not weight-based) means the Sling TSi qualifies as MOSAIC-eligible for Sport Pilot operations with appropriate endorsements — expanding its buyer base significantly. Factory-assist builds are the strongest EAB collateral profile: comprehensive build logs, Sling-supplied components, and U.S.-based support documentation. Full Sling financing guide.
The Van's RV-12iS is the MOSAIC-native aircraft from the world's most successful kit builder — Rotax 912 iS fuel-injected engine, all-metal construction, Garmin G3X avionics, and a Vso of approximately 40 knots: comfortably inside MOSAIC's 61-knot landing-configuration stall limit. Van's specifically designed the RV-12 around the original LSA rules, so MOSAIC is a clean fit with no caveats and no gross-weight workarounds. As an EAB aircraft it carries the 7.46% experimental rate. The RV-12iS is the most financeable kit-built MOSAIC aircraft FLYING Finance handles — the build documentation is thorough, the community is enormous, and lenders with EAB experience know the platform. Full EAB financing guide.
Real numbers matched to the specific aircraft featured above. Note the rate difference — S-LSA at 6.92%, EAB at 7.46%. 15% down, 20-year term.

LSA underwriting is simpler than certified piston but has specific requirements. Here's what drives approval.
The 6.92% LSA rate applies to aircraft with an S-LSA (Special Light Sport Aircraft) airworthiness certificate. Confirm your aircraft's FAA airworthiness certificate category before applying. ELSA (Experimental Light Sport Aircraft) certificates carry the experimental rate of 7.46%, not the LSA rate.
S-LSA aircraft require an annual condition inspection by a manufacturer-trained repairman or certificated mechanic. Current condition inspection is a lender requirement before funding. Lenders want to see the most recent condition inspection sign-off — typically within the past 12 months — and any open squawks addressed before closing.
Most S-LSA aircraft are Rotax-powered. Rotax-authorized service facility records are important collateral documentation — they confirm maintenance to manufacturer specifications. Rotax 912 and 915 engines have specific oil change and inspection intervals that differ from Lycoming/Continental. Lenders familiar with LSA recognize Rotax-authorized service records as a quality indicator.
Standard 680 minimum for LSA transactions. The lower loan values on most LSA aircraft (typically $100K–$350K) mean lender competition is reasonable and approval timelines are fast. Higher-value LSA like the CubCrafters Carbon Cub SS at $300K–$450K see the same underwriting rigor as lower-end certified piston transactions.
15% down is standard for S-LSA transactions with a complete borrower profile. The lower absolute loan values on LSA aircraft mean the down payment is typically $15,000–$50,000 — more accessible than certified piston transactions. Some lenders allow 10% on lower-value LSA with strong borrower profiles.
MOSAIC's expansion of the LSA speed envelope means some aircraft previously limited to Sport Pilot operations now have a broader certified pilot buyer pool as well. This is generally positive for collateral values. Lender frameworks for MOSAIC-specific aircraft are still developing — some lenders are ahead of others on MOSAIC-eligible aircraft familiarity. FLYING Finance routes to lenders who have updated their frameworks.
