Ownership Analysis

The RV-7A is the nosewheel version of Van’s side-by-side, aerobatic-capable two-seat kit, typically powered by the Lycoming IO-360, and one of the most-built kit aircraft designs in the world.

Because every RV is amateur-built, two aircraft of the same model can differ enormously. Buyers should review the builder’s logs and photos, the annual condition inspection history, weight and balance, and engine and avionics documentation, and should note that the repairman certificate for condition inspections stays with the original builder, so a new owner typically needs an A&P for inspections.

Experimental amateur-built aircraft are a distinct lending category: underwriting looks closely at who built the aircraft, the quality of the build and its documentation, the condition inspection history, and insurance availability, and fewer lenders participate than in certified aircraft. Financing falls under the Experimental / Kit tier.
