Ownership Analysis
The B55, built from 1964 to 1982, is the most-produced Baron variant, powered by Continental IO-470 engines (260 hp each). Its combination of straightforward systems, solid handling, and a large fleet has made it one of the most common entry points into piston twins.
As with any twin, engine and propeller reserves are doubled, and the IO-470’s time since overhaul on each side is a major pricing factor. Airframe age makes corrosion inspection and prior damage history important, and panel quality varies from original to extensively modernized.
The B55’s large fleet gives lenders a solid base of resale comparables. Underwriting centers on engine times, logbook completeness, and pilot multi-engine experience, with loan terms in the Certified Piston tier.
